Qu'est ce que le progrès ? (synthèse en anglais)

I'm gonna present the notion « Idea of progress » . We can ask us «What the progress is ? And what it's signification ? The progress is an evolution of persons, things and ideas to be more advanced, and in general better. So first, I'm gonna talk about the progress of the society. In a second time, I'm gonna present the progress of technology and medicine. Finally, I will criticize this progress.

The society has evolved a lot for several decenies. The principal changing is the changing of mentalities.This changing of mentalities is important and is very visible in the families. Before, the father imposed the autority mostly by the violence, physical or moral. It was the owner of his home. Today the families are most allied , there is a form of democracy and the children aren't scared by there fathers.

This change in mentality is also reflected in the professional world with the disappearance of machismo. Before women could not exercise certain trades. Today they can, for example, be a judge.

Finally, gay marriage perfectly illustrates this apparent change in society. In fact this law is applied in tens of including certain country are very catholic as the France or the Ireland.

However, society is not the only area that has evolved in the technological effect, particularly thanks to the Internet, it evolved much. Enable Internet sharing data instantly around the world and revolutionized the world today. From a medical point of view, we can mention the new care and vaccines or even the first total face transplant to allow recreate the face after an accident.

Finally, we can evoke electronic cigarettes struggle against the harmful effects of traditional cigarettes.

Finally, all these developments are not so beneficial that look. To prove what I say, let's see again the preceding examples. The change in society in the family seems very beneficial for all but over time, we realize that democratization within families, transform children in disrespectful children allowed to insult sometimes even their parents.

Concerniendo Internet, this can be very dangerous for children who may be shocked by this violent or sexual content on the Net, or worse still, children are easy prey for pedophiles. Teenagers, older, risk of being locked in a virtual world by creating a strong addiction and loneliness.

Finally, we learn recently that the electronic cigarette could be actually as harmful as the classic cigarette.

Therefore, in my opinion, progress is beneficial and indispensable to our society but we must be carefull in the developpement of new technologies or new ways to think for the happiness of everyone.
