Synthesis of the meeting with Mr. Jack LANG

Jack LANG is a politician, member of the Socialist Party, he served as France's Minister of Culture from 1981 to 1986 and 1988 to 1992, and as Minister of Education from 1992 to 1993 and 2000 to 2002. He was also the Mayor of Blois from 1989 to 2000. He served until 2012 in the National Assembly from the sixth district of Pas-de-Calais.

During this meeting, Jack LANG spoke about different subjects which classified in two topics:

- Politic and economic

The Europe: Tanks to this creation, we have now a common economic market, and a politic and social system.

Austerity: Is not a good solution for the France. In foreign countries, this policy is not applied. In Italy or in Spain, population’s salary is not touch by the crisis, there is just public power which is reduced.

- Culture and education

The intelligence: This is the only way where we must invest for get out of the crisis. This will boost the country's growth. For example, in China, about one high school is built every day.

What’s more, the culture is a key sector for get out the crisis. For example, when Jack LANG and Melina MERCOURI created the “European capital of culture”, each city had receives the title, have given new life to their neighborhoods (Liverpool, Lille…)

The education: The curriculum is overloaded for students: “It’s better to learn less, but learn better”

Our curriculum must integrate some fundamental notions for the future career’s student: Team spirit (thanks to project like TPE) and an ethical approach.

When these changes will adopt, the control of knowledge will make more sense.

Now, our education system is excellent for good purple, however for the other (30%) they can’t get anything (degree).

Finally, teacher must learn how to teach: A master does not know how to teach. Jack LANG proposes to create a training school for teachers.

To conclude, this meeting was really interesting because Jack Lang gave us some ideas to improve France’s situation especially concerning the culture and the education.

France has still the power to shine in the world as the political, economic or cultural.
