Dutch Assignment

Increasingly, and especially in Europe, we know that a country can not be built independently but always in interaction with other countries.

It is indeed as a country that is built with influences from both other. We can see with the example of the Netherlands. Indeed, the country was heavily inspired by France in 1975 with the reign of Napoleon throughout Europe. The emperor gave the reign of the country to his brother Luis Napoleon in 1806. But Louis did not take command of the country with pleasure. Indeed, Holland was a strategic point and should therefore exercise a high authority, and he decided to place his brother. Ill since childhood, Louis was attending the scene of treatments and frequently so he did not move to a cold country. The will of Napoleon was nevertheless applied.

He left the country a little later when peace came. what he conciliated the esteem of Dutch.

Yet his reign is marked by some French influences on netherlands like some politics, family names, metric system, drive rules.

Concerning the politics influences, the kings Louis mission was to unify the country very attached to its regional values. So he decided to divide the country into 10 provinces with a governor for everyone. Everyone whose mission is to enforce the directives of the king in the province. He also applied uniform justice. Indeed, depending on the offense, theft, for example, the sentence could be death in a village and a fine in another. It introduces the French civil code and criminal. It also abolished torture and forced labor.

On a religious point, he proclaimed religious equality in 1808 because there were strong discrimination between Jews and Catholics.

Thus, the French king has left few traces of the contribution of French culture in Holland. The example traffic rules may be cited. Indeed, the netherlands car ride on the right side. This is due to the influence of King Louis.

Another contribution is about the family names. In fact, family names in France were given according to the job of the person and the netherlands used the same system and thus it is possible to find names such as Drukker (one who prints).

Thirdly, King Louis brought another important thing to Holland which is the metric system. Nowadays, there are two ways to measure distances, miles and meters. The first comes from England and has spread in the U.S.. Thus, as the rules of traffic, the netherlands use Metric French which is measured in meters.
