First country to develop bio in Asia, India alone accounts 400,000 producers nearly 800,000 hectares dedicated for the bio farming.

What are Indians’ bio culture are: tea, spices, cereals, fruits and vegetables.

Indian’s are poor and can only develop the bio on small lands. They cannot extend their bio production very quickly even if they would want to. Indians want their bio production to increase as it is for them much more sustainable, less polluting, and provides a decent income for farmers.

In 2011, India has adopted a National Plan for Organic Development that permit to farmers to acquire an Organic Agriculture Degree.

If the bio production in increasing, we can imagine that it is the case as well for the consumption of the bio. And that is true; organic food grows up from 20% to 22% per year in India. Even if the consumers interesting in organic products are at the moment mostly affluent, attitudes and mentalities are changing and we can consider that a lot more Indian will change their consumption.

Kavita Mukhi is a pioneer in organic food trade in India. She has been promoting for over twenty years a healthy, natural and organic food as part of a way of life and thinking that respects people and the Earth. She makes her best to tell people that organic products are the best.

A booming Indian’s economy has made a growing middle class demanding (exiger) a better quality life, and so a better way of eating and drinking. They want quality products.

Food is a ritual and very important for the community. Food is traditional for Indians, but they are more and more open to the world; their habits are changing. They have more information concerning what is healthy or not.

The young generation of Indians are now spending more money on what they considered before as a complete luxury.

• Different Trade Shows exist to promote the Organic Food Trade in India; Organic Farmers Market, BIOFACH INDIA (an international exhibition for biologic products)... We can imagine that they will contribute to the development of this market in India, which already experience a good expansion.
