EXPOSE NELSON MANDELA

INTRODUCTION:

I am going to talk about Nelson Mandela and his fight against segregation in South Africa.

Nelson Mandela was born in 1918 in South Africa, in a small village. He grew up under the apartheid system, which separated whites and blacks and gave all privileges to whites. Mandela studied law and became a lawyer. At a young age, he began to fight against apartheid by joining the African National Congress (ANC), a group that wanted equality for all.

He became the first black president of South Africa in 1994.

MASSACRE DE SHARPEVILLE :

In March 1960, peaceful demonstrators gathered in front of the Sharpeville police station to protest against the laws of apartheid.

The police suddenly opened fire at the demonstrators.

69 people were killed, including women and children.

After the Sharpeville massacre, the ANC was banned, leading Mandela to go underground and create the military wing of the ANC called "Umkhonto we Sizwe".

PRISON :

In 1962, Mandela was arrested and imprisoned for his actions against the government. He spent 27 years in prison: in Pretoria Prison, Robben Island prison, Pollsmoor prison and Victor Verster prison, becoming a symbol of the freedom around the world.

In 1990, he was released and began negotiating with the government to end apartheid. In 1994, after the first free elections, he became the first black president of South Africa. He worked to unite people and remove the divisions between blacks and whites. He advocated peace and reconciliation rather than revenge.

After leaving the presidency in 1999, he continued to work for humanitarian causes until his death in 2013. Nelson Mandela is today a symbol of peace, justice and courage all around the world.

CONCLUSION :

I chose Nelson Mandela because I really like his story and I am interested in South Africa.
