Q1 Do you think the research design adopted by NASCAR was appropriated? Why or why not?
The research design adopted by NASCAR is appropriated.
As explained, NASCAR has two major objectives to achieve: to increase the market share by recruiting younger fans, and to remake its stereotyped image. Accordingly, the main research question could be such as: How can NASCAR do to attract younger fans? How can NASCAR do to improve it’s brand image? etc.
NASCAR has realized above mentioned problems exists, but does not yet understand reasons that has generated these problems. The exploratory research can be conducted to explore factors that have an influence on identified problems. In other words, this type of research design can help NASCAR to gain ideas and insight into the research question.
Q2 Which research designs would you recommend?
Exploratory research followed by a descriptive survey is recommended.
NARSCAR might want to verify the findings from exploratory research. In other words, conclusive research can be conducted to test specific information about factors/variables that can have an influence on those selecting criteria of buying and perception of brand. This kind of information can describe some characteristics of consumers’ behaviours, which can be further expressed by the specific hypotheses. As objectives don’t determine cause-and-effect relationships between variables, the descriptive research is appreciated.
RM: This exercise helps you to understand the nature and procedure of developing an approach to problem. You should always start by defying the research problem, followed by collecting information around the problem. Finally, you should beware of the classification of research design, and be able to choose the most appreciated research design.
