I) Brick & mortar stores

1) specialist shops: one range of products ( shoes, hifi, clothes, book, cd's)

often franchises/ often operate thought a chain: Zara, Minelli... ( a franchisee receives the marketing help of the brand, he can sell only that brand exclusive contract & he gives back a percentage on his turnover to the franchisor/ the layout of the stores are standardized.)

2) licenced dealers: very often cars are sold by licenced dealers. They are subcontractors who have the licence to sell a brand. ( exclusive rights)

3) convenience shops/conner shops: often, local groceries, bakers

who cover a small commercial area.

Shopping at walking distance. Often more exportsive. They ofter services such as longer opening hours, delivery service ( for senior citizens)

4) department stores: created in france in the 19th centurie, ( cf Zola) diferent categories of products in one store.

Ex: Harrod's/ Galeries Lafayette/ selfriedge's. Today offer trendy, upscale goods often target tourists.

5) Development of superstores: supermarkets/ hypermarkets/ shopping precints/ malls find all kinds of products/ develop in the suburbs. Where they offer free car park. It is called the one stop shopping. It can offer/ better prices than High Street Stores/ longer opening hours( sometimes 24h/day)

it encourages impulsive buying

some are so huge that thet are nicknamed: Big Box Stores ( Walmart, Tesco)

they subscribe to central buying offices to offer lower prices

retailtainment of fun shopping: area/ centres where you have both stores to shop & entertainment ( restaurants, cinemas, bowling...)/ turned into theme parks. Kaufhof in Berlin

development of factory outlets in the suburbs, sell end of range products at attractive prices

hard discounters for FMCGS/ thanks to bulk purchase/ offer permanent discount on generic products.

No aesthetic layout, co advertising( PSA) minimum staff.

II) New trends

1) vending machines: in specific places station airports need no personnel / offer on the spot delivery & consumption (bread)

2) refocusing on the high street stores

3) charity shops :in GB shops may be controled by charities such as Oxfam or Care, in France

4) doostep delivery: in GB milk/ newspaper

5) online distribucion; Amazon/

6) Tv & Mobile shopping video movies goods
