The kings
Kings came into power into a lot of different ways. In many kingdoms, the right to rule was by the blood of the king. For example, when a king died, his oldest son would become king. This was and is still called hereditary succession. If the king didn't have a son, then his brother or another male relative was nominated king. Sometimes kings came into power through assassination or by conquering lands in war.

The kings were most of the time, not respected like the church was by the people. At times, the nobles went against the kings- it practically never happens to the church- but the kings usually regained power easily. They keeped this order with alliances with other people. The King had different ideas than the pope. He believed that he had the power not only to choose his own bishops, but also that he had more power than the Christian Church, but is it true ? (2008. Church vs. Kings
The relations between the kings or state and the church was very tumultus. Some kings were sometimes more in conflict with church than others and there was even some kings that weren’t in fight with the church but that was very rare. But what normaly happened between popes and kings was a bit like Pope Gregory VII and Emperor Henry IV . And i will take them for an example. Pope Gregory VII and Emperor Henry IV decided that their two powers would rule the kingdom. Pope Gregory decided the bishop that Emperor Henry established was a low choice as a religious official. What Henry decided to do later on, was to challenge the Pope’s power- almost every king do it at the time- and cancel the votes for the bishop to the Pope Gregiry VII. Gregory the pope determined that he would denounce the Emperor from the church. This decision, was that the King was then banned from his kingdom. It took the Emperor three days to prosperously gain again the acceptance into the church and gain back the Pope’s “better graces”. The Pope was given the victory and the power at the same time, yet, it was short lived. Some people believe that it even, Eventually, was one of the reasons that helped the future collapse of the Middle Ages. (2008.
