The notion I’m going to deal with is seats and form of power in India. The subject of my oral presentation will be India a country of contradictions.

First, I would like to briefly (brièvement) introduce India and its people. Secondly, I will show that india is a country with many contradictions and paradoxes yet nowadays.

India is a big country located in South Asia. It is the seventh-largest country by area, the second-most populous country with over 1.2 billion people, and the most populous democracy in the world. India joined the commonwealth in 1917, the same year where India became independant. We can reconize India easely on a map because is shape like a diamont.

Let's talk about the economic aspect of India :

As a matter of fact, India is the land of paradox and contradictions: ostentatious wealth and extreme poverty, deep-rooted (profondèment enracinée) between tradition and modernity. India is like no other place. It is one of the fastest growing economies in the world and is developing rapidly. India is best example of a booming economy country as journalist said in a check in where we worked on. For example, services in recent years has taken off in India. As a matter of fact the service sectors has risen shrply, dramatically due to high technology development. Indeed in 1990 services repesented about 40% of the gross domectic product. Now the service sectors represent about 60 % of the Gross domectic product. The bar chart where we worked on shows that the servive sector is by far the most important one : it is twice as much as agricultural sector and three time as much as industry. The industrial and agricultural sectors have both decreased in various proportion. It has been divided by 2 in less than 30 years.

However, despite the importance of large industrial groups and the development of high technology, India is a country very unequal where much of the population lives in poverty high.

On the one hand (d’un côté) on one side, we have India with a large number of millionaires and a middle class that is growing and open to the world, on the other hand (de l’autre côté) the majority of the population remains poor . For example by working on audio document we knew that each day there are people whi go through the mountains of routing coverage searching for anything he can sell. If they are lucky they earn about 2000 roupies by month. 2000 roupies by month are equivalent to 40 $ by month. In addation there 300 000 000 people who live with about 1$ by day. Thet is more than population of the united states. As a matter of fact, we are in the 21st century, India is "emerging power" and yet it is a country of traditions.

Now let's talk about the cultural aspect of India :

Firts of all, I can't speak of India and if I don't mention their own film industry.

In fact, Bollywood is the name given to the Indian film industry which is modeled on Hollywood. Bollywood films, distributed throughout India, export around the world.

Secondly, In India, dowry is a tradition that still exists. Indeed, the family of the girl must pay a dowry to the future husband's family for marriage. The dowry tradition explains also why the parents do not want to have daughters. Shilipi Somaya
