I will you present the geography of the United States of America.
The United States of America is in the west of France between the Atlantic Ocean and the Pacific Ocean.
The USA is made up of 50 States, the federal being Washington DC (formally District of Columbia). 48 of them are located in North America between Canada to the north and Mexico to the south, and the other two are Alaska and Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean.
The American flag is called “The Stars and Stripes” or “The Star-Spangled Banner” or “Gold Glory”:
-13 stripes for the 13 colonies which fought for their independence
-50 stars for the 50 present states
The eagle is the national emblem of the USA
The USA’s area is of 9 million 6 hundred 29 thousand and 91 square kilometer. It’s the fourth largest country in the world. 4500 km separates the Atlantic coast to the east and the Pacific coast to the west. There are 2 500 km Canada and Mexico. For 2014, the estimate population is of 321 000 000. The capital federal is Washington DC and the largest city is New York with 8 406 000 inhabitants. The national language is English. The Government is a Federal presidential constitutional republic with Barack Obama as President. The Independence Day is the fourth of July.
North of the USA, there are very large lakes such as Lake Michigan or Lake Maggiore (the largest freshwater lake in the world). In West of the United States, there are the Rocky Mountains which go from Canada to California. At the center of the United States Great Plains ago, crossed the Mississippi and Missouri, which allows the country to be the largest producer in the world in the agricultural sector.
The center of the United States is sparsely populated. The majority of the population is concentrated in the coastal cities of the Atlantic Ocean (New York, Boston, Philadelphia, Washington, Miami), Pacific Ocean (Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle), the Gulf Mexico (Houston, New Orleans) and around the Great Lakes (Chicago, Detroit, Cleaveland). Some cities are located inland as Dallas, Texas, Phoenix (Arizona) and Memphis (Tennessee).
California is the most populous state in the United States with over 38 million inhabitants. Los Angeles, the main city of the state is also the second largest city in the USA, just after New York and its 8 406 000 million inhabitants. The country has more than 41 cities over a million inhabitants.
During the history of the USA, this country experienced a big poulation growth because of very important waves of immigration from Latin American countries, particularly from Mexico and Cuba
It is a multiethnic country. It's a table which presents the percentages of ethnic groups in 2013 in the USA.
The French population remains located more in New England and in Louisiana (Cajuns), reinforced in recent years by Haitian immigrants.
Amerindian populations represent only 2.8 million people, often living in very precarious conditions.
