Rédigez votre texte : PART 1-JOBS
As a professional tourist guide, Hélène needs to speak English in different situations. Outside of July and August, many tourist sites only provides visits in French or English so she doesn’t speaks English only with Americans and British visitors. In fact, due to different nationalities that comes on July and August, many of them are Russians, Chinese and Japanese Hélène has to speak in English. In addition, she speaks English, if the group did not bring their own guide for speaking their foreign language.
When Hélène knows the site, usually she does not look for information about it, however she needs to find information about the group she has to guide, for adapting her speech to needs of group and by level of interest.
In case she is not familiar with the site, she prepares her speech in many ways as possible in French but she search and collect a maximum of information in English. After that, she tries to put all the information in order and she eliminate the unnecessary words for finally making several notes.
When she has to present somewhere for the first time, Hélène likes to practice with a friend; in this case she tries to find out how should she pronounced words she didn’t know or she is not used to it.
Furthermore, if she has a problem with new or technical words, she knows some teachers from England who can help her if she needs.
In the first place, she advice to prepare a presentation like she already explain (find the information, put the ideas in order and make notes). In the second place, she also advice to do not read from a piece of paper because that gives us a sound and a look unprofessional. Our notes always have to be concise, clearly and simple. Besides, it is not so important to make a huge list of technical vocabulary unless we have specialists into the group. Finally, learn the key words and instructions for making a good impression. PART 2-WELCOMING Find the expressions she uses to do the things in the list below:
Good morning everyone…
I’m your guide… My name is…
The grounds and interior of the chattel…
Over there you can see the 19th century landscape garden…
If you look down there, by the river…
Just next to the wall of the chattel, you can see the reminds of the first tank… PART 3-A MESSAGE First e-mail Hélène is not available but she has a colleague, Jean-Pascal, who is an expert on the château.
