Espaces et échanges (document en anglais)

Intro: The notion of space and exchanges requires the movement of people or goods between countries. Interactions and exchanges across the borders have become easier and faster but it has not always been the case.

I'm going to speak about immigration in America that is very important. In effect, over 40 million people have migrated to the United States. All Americans are immigrants or children of immigrants. What can makes people leave their native country for the USA?

Le plan: Firstly, we will talk about the motivations of people to immigrate to the USA, the dangers of the trip and why life was better for immigrants in the USA than in their country of origin, then the majority and minority in USA today.

Développement :

* Firstly, in the document « New Horizon » a immigrant, Alejandro Perez, go to the USA to have better life, higher standard of living with a better job. When mexicans go to the USA it's because they are struck by the poverty and unemployment. For unskilled workers like them, it's easier to find a job in the US. In an other document, « Facing Reality », Candido sneak across the border illegaly with the help of smugglers, who they have paid by the wetbacks. The migrants were treated like cattle during the trip, it was unconfortable, moreover the US smugglers were threatening, they had shotguns so the mexicans like Candido were scared. During the trip, the truck had a problem and when it started again, the smugglers stranded the mexicans in the desert. Their dream for a better life has turned into a nightmare. In Arizona, the state who had the highest rate of arrest of illegal immigrants and the most important number of crossing death, the minute men stop illegal immigrants with patrole. Moreover to decrease the number of illegal immigrants, US congress have decided to build a huge fence between Mexico and the South of USA.

*Secondly, in « The browing of America » we can see that Hispanics represents 16% of US population. Hispanics are becoming more and more important, they are the second largest population of the USA after whites people. Moreover, in the document « A power shift », the man is concerned about the minorities because he has discovered in a newspaper that the whites are becoming a minority in California whereas the Hispanics are becoming a majority.

Conclusion:

To conclude, we can say that the mexicans leave their country for have a better life with a better job, so they have more money. But the trip to the USA is very dangerous with the bad side of the smugglers and with the Minute Men. The benefits for mexicans is have money for send in Mexico for their families, and go back in their native country for their retire with lot of money. Indeed it is harder for them to integrate and they face discrimination because they don’t share a common culture with the USA.
