Do you know climate change? Yes, you do…… Of course! This issue is one of the most serious for Earth. The scientists revealed that our planet is warming faster than anticipated. Our lifestyles create serious pollution problems. The industrial developments create carbon emissions and the deforestation prevents from reducing CO₂ emissions. United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon said “Today we must set the world on a new course”.

Firstly, we’ll study the impact of climate change on our planet. Next, we will see how the population around the world is responding to climate change. Finally, we may focus on how world leaders tackle climate change.

The impact of climate change and environmental degradation fall disproportionately upon developing countries. Such as Marshall Island in Micronesia in the Pacific Ocean, these islands will be underwater in several months or in several years. We are talking about islands of human beings that could literally disappear into the ocean. However these islands may become uninhabitable before waves submerge them, because of the saline contamination of fresh water and also warming is expected to produce more threatening tropical storms or tidal waves. Then severe weather events will continue to affect the global health like terrible droughts, violent storms, sliding grounds….. But according to the researchers’ findings, they reported that heat-related deaths represent more fatalities than all others weather events combined. Moreover, with climate change, the pollution can trigger respiratory troubles, often due to poor air quality like in large cities. Then the amount of pollen increases which is bad news for people with seasonal allergies. Indeed, climate change impacts people in many ways: Infectious diseases, gastrointestinal diseases, food insecurity and even mental health problems like after hurricane Katrina.

How does the global population respond to that? Clearly, Marshall islanders are frightened and worried sick. The developing countries would like that the industrial nations must take theirs responsibilities. Some people think that climate change is a lie. For them, it is Earth’s natural cycle. Many of us would like to make a difference. The last twenty-first September, in large cities, marches were organized to highlight environmental damage and climate change caused by big business. For that matter, we could contribute to change only at our level. Perhaps it might be better to eat less meat. We propose that we take short showers instead of baths. We could insulate correctly our home to avoid cold air leaks and minimize heating costs. What about improving to prevent, re-use, recover and recycle waste of all kinds? We might be able to do it.

Next, famous stars militate to fight climate change. As Emma Thomson, an English actress, who walked Sunday’s March in London, she participated in Greenpeace expedition by earlier September. They would keep an eye on the melting of the ice at the North Pole, and also they went to the Arctic to raise awareness of the dangers of drilling for oil.

In addition, Leonardo DiCaprio, an American actor and film producer, who is also a committed environmentalist, became the United Nations Messenger of Peace on Climate Change. The UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon nominated him on the sixteenth of September 2014. Leonardo addressed world leaders gathered to debate the
