What are the effects of computer gaming on young people?

While many claim that computer gaming has positive effects on the youth, others believe that this activity is quite harmful. Nowadays, the new generation kids almost always have access to electronics, unsupervised by they’re parents they tend to spend hours on them, most often playing video games. While this has positive effects, it can also lead to very serious ones, there is a thin line between them, which can easily be crossed if not careful.

We can ask ourselves,what are the effects of computer gaming on young people?

Firstly, I will discuss the negative effect of possible dependence. Excessive video game playing, could make susceptible young people addicted. Most often, this will lead them to fall into a kind of vicious circle from which there is no way out, they could forget about their real life, anything out of their game world could start seeming unimportant to them. Suffering from sleep deprivation, such as insomnia, depression, anxiety, and last but not least aggression, because of the violence commonly used in video games might also occur, if there is no moderation of the playing time. Those people could start struggling with communication if it is live and not through the prism of the video game, which could affect their relationships with others.

On the other hand, computer gaming could lead to the improvement in certain skills for some people. Games which are fun,engaging, active, rewarding and progress-oriented could improve cognition. In general, video games engage attention and train people to follow rules, concentrate,imagine,make decisions, remember new things, they can be educational for young people. Many believe, that computer gaming develops the logical thinking of people, this is the case of the game Minecraft, which can teach anybody how to build a house in seconds. Most commonly computer games allow an improvement in controlled behavior and focus, which could be very helpful for young people with ADHD or Dyslexia.

In conclusion, it is my firm conviction that computer gaming has a more negative impact on young people. Nowadays, teenagers often struggle with communication,it is a possible result of their excessive video games playing which tends to have a negative effect of reducing social interaction. Those youngsters end up forgetting how to communicate outside of the game world, and  being socially inept, which can have a negative impact on their future. One possible outcome of this would be that they won’t find a job, or even a life partner. What needs to be done is for all young people to do computer gaming in moderation.
