Parabolic flight is a way to create a situation of microgravity for about twenty seconds. It is a relatively less expensive means than the others and allows the use of laboratory equipment. In addition, it allows the experimenters to be taken on board with their experiences, which is impossible on a fall tower or in orbital stations for example. The disadvantages are the short duration, the quality (0.01 g of residual acceleration). For parabolic flight, we speak of a situation of microgravity.
The principle of parabolic flight is to reproduce a trajectory as close as possible to the parabola described by an object launched at the speed of the plane, so that the experiments located inside the plane are in a state of microgravity. Fine steering is required, which requires two pilots, one acting on the pitch (steering the attitude) while the second maintains the zero inclination (roll axis).
