Digital art refers to art made using software, computers, or other electronic devices. Anything made on digital media, such as illustrations, videos, digital paintings, and such can be classified as digital art. In this technology-driven world that we live in today, almost everything is digitalized. We use computers to check our mail, smartphones to communicate, and send photos and videos to each other using social media. Like everything else, art has also started going digital. Younger generations have grown up with digital art, but it is still a very new concept for many of us. Digital art artists are becoming more and more recognized for their work. Does digital art count as real art?
Digital art was not considered "real" art in its early days because artists took it easy and somehow "stealed" the work of classical fine art artists. People tell that they weren't using real materials for example for paintings, like brushes, canvases, etc. A digital artist, Vincent chu ,specializes in 3D portraits of young girls. He proceeds on Ipad, the details are shocking and leave us speechless. These works resemble oils on canvas, the smallest details are present from the eyelashes to the fluff on the face: astonishing ! In his work of a girl with her hand on her face, hair flying and expressionless, we can see the awesome work he does and resonate with us with the amazing digital art work, how he can work every fiddly details is marvellous. Another digital artist Alessandro Pautasso alias Kaneda , art director and illustrator, his specialty lies in digital art and mixed media and his style is characterized by large abstract portraits with a touch of Pop Art. Thanks to his magnificent works, we have noticed the creativity that digital allows. Always with beautiful bright colors, these works make you want to look at them! Like we see in his work "yoda".
But digital art is not only in the form of procreate paintings, but can also be in the form that Shantell Martin uses. Shantell Martin draws with augmented reality, she can use space as a canvas with this technique she can express her imagination in 3D wherever she wants, even in unexpected spaces. This other way of digital art shows us the multitudes of ways to use digital.
Finally, digital art has several forms but still remains a recognized art despite its different techniques. From my point of view, digital art counts as real art in relation to the time they spend making their works, but not only it's not because their techniques differs from traditionals techniques that their works should not be deserved or recognized. I find that we feel as many emotions when we look at a classic work as a digital art, even sometimes more sensations! Recent “immersive” digital exhibitions have taken older traditional works of art by artists like Vincent Van Goh and digitized them, allowing more viewers to appreciate works of art that, once would have been much harder to come by to see.
