In class we worked on Myths and Heroes.
For the majority, when we are talking about myths and heroes, we think superheroes.
These supermen defending justice by fighting crime, we will remember the famous superheroes who rocked our childhood such as Spiderman, Batman and Superman.
But we will see that there are various other heroes who defend other goals r and have very singular paths.
We studied various types of important figures and celebrities but I will focus more on two of them: Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs.
Some iconic figures didn’t always succeed the first time and others even we had to start from scratch in order to become what they are today: in this case, we find Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs.
To begin with, Oprah Winfrey is an African-American woman born in the commune of Mississippi in the USA, she lived in the middle class and could not see herself making her life a concrete thing. Oprah is the very example of a success years of having used no help: it is thanks to her determination, her mind and the support of her family that she could become what she is today. Thanks to her desire to succeed she is now a great businesswoman and presents a show followed by millions of people. Now Oprah wishes to give a chance to all those who are in the same case as her younger.
It is a model of inpiration for everyone, it aspires to success and surpassing oneself.
In some other cases the success is only due to sharing or feelings: this is the case of Steve Jobs.
Steve Jobs is in California, in San Francisco. This man is a businessman and inventor who has changed the world of communication by creating Apple and working on various other projects like Microsoft.
Just like Oprah Winfrey, he did himself in the business world.
But unlike the latter, he had no pity and had almost no sentimental ties to his family until he denied the existence of his own daughter, Lisa.
Despite this coldness, Steve Jobs has always pushed himself to innovate more and more to lead him to success. If Steve Jobs is recognized today as having marked the world, it is thanks to his determination, his desire to do more and better, without forgetting his frank speech.
To conclude, there are several definitions for the "hero": the one who defends the world, or the one who changes it.
Oprah Winfrey and Steve Jobs are perfect examples of success and the American dream.
Through their journey they learned from their mistakes, in order to reach their wishes and their plans.
Some have turned their success into a way of life, while others hope to share their advice and defend the causes they support, such as Oprah Winfrey defending inequality.
