Myths Heroes and Legends :

Today I am going to deal with the notion of myth and heroes. First of all to give a definition of this notion. A myth is an ancient story about gods, heroes and magic. A hero is a person admired for his achievements, noble qualities and great courage or a mythological or legendary figure. To illustrate this notion, I will present 4 documents (pictures 1, 2, 3 and 5 on page 12 and 13).

The first document is an image representing wonder woman who is a hero of American comics, the second document is a photo of two firefighters trying to extinguish a fire (form of heroism). The third document is also a photo but it is a handicapped of the legs to carry out a race of speed thanks to proteeses. Finally, the fourth (the fifth in the book) document is a painting of the middle ages where we can see a knight who kills a kind of salamander (the latter to the area of having saved a woman in distress).

Many heroes have fallen today because they do not correspond to the ideals of later societies. Heroes tend to have powers (great strength, great intelligence or magical powers): Document 1 is the example. Most heroes have a difficult journey (hard job as firefighter document 2): their birth is complicated (document 3) or speak of the past heroically ( document 5) Heroes are responsible for the welfare of society. They sacrifice their own safety for the greater good. Popular culture relies heavily on myths and heroes to create new films, series, books.

to conclude, I think the concept of myths heroes and legends has an important place in the society. We must not forget that the definition hero is subjective, it depends on us and society. Define someone as hero is acceding to its causes, goals, which can sometimes be good and just as bad or faked. Some people or characters are considered heroes in reality impostors or corrupted.
However, a fictional hero as real must be courageous, honest, just, that is to say have qualities.
