NWA – F*ck Tha Police
Fuck tha police is a protest song from the american group N.W.A on the label Ruthless Records and was released in 1988.
N.W.A is the acronym of Niggaz With Attitude. The group is composed of 5 members : Dr. Dre ; Ice Cube ; Mc Ren ; Eazy E and yella and they do hip hop and more specially gangsta rap.
It was over 27 years they released Their most famous and controversial music, « fuck tha police », from the album « Straight Outta Compton ». In this song they denounce the brutalities committed by american cops, who abuse of their autority and power on black people in the eighties in the United States.
The NWA's members were black so they endured this abusive comportment of the cops and they wanted to rise up black people against this.
The things who made this song so famous were the lyrics, they were very violent and trash. Because of this song and the entire album, Straight Outta compton was one of the first album to receive the famous censuration « PARENTAL ADVISORY ».
Here an extrait from the song :
Fuck tha police! Comin' straight from the underground
A young nigga got it bad ‘cause I'm brown
And not the other color, so police think
They have the authority to kill a minority
Here the famous citation « Fuck tha police » means more or less « rise up against the cops».
Nigga is way the say « black people ». They denounce the racial discrimination against black people
Here we have a comparaison between black and white people, the rapper said because he isn't white and he is a minority, the cops think they have the right to abuse on them.
Fuck the police! And Ren said it with authority
Because the niggas on the street is a majority
Here we have an exemple on how the group try to rise up black people. They said that cops think they have the autority everywhere because they are the majority and the black people are the minority, but in the street (in Los Angeles for example) They were more black people than white people, so they got autority as well.
To conclude, we saw that NWA dont hesited to use rude words to denounce racial discrimination, their song rise up many black people and also white people, it was the effect of a bomb when they released it in the ninties. But still today, in many country and also in United States, they are many cops who abuse of their autority, many black people are killed for no reason, just because of their skin. Recently a famous rapper XXXTENTACION also made a song about the abusive comportment of the american cops.
We choose this song because firstly we like it very much and then because it was very brave from them in this period to do a song rude like that to denounce white autority.
