(War is a counterculture era song written by Norman Whitfield and Barret Strong for the Motown label in 1969. The singer is Edwin Starr.
He was born the 21 January 1942 in Nashville. Later he lived in Detroit singing for Motown records. Edwin Starr was famous for his Norman Whitfield-produced Motown singles of the 1970s, especially for the number-one hit War).

I choose this protest song because it’s an obvious anti-Vietnam War statement. The lyrics are about the fact that War is useless, and Edwin insist on this because at each chorus he repeat 3 times that War is useless. He talks about the violence and the result of War, so destruction of innocent lives, and pain. But it also speaks of the shattered dreams of young soldiers who go to war.
I choose this music because it denounces War through a catchy music, so it is easier to convey a message.
