Women’s rights are human rights speech by H.Clinton
Hillary Clinton did her speech on 5 september 1995 at Beijing in China during the Fourth World Conference On Women. The purpose of Hillary Clinton was to demonstrate that women should be treated in the same way as every human. She wanted to end the uneven treatment of women all around the world. Before anything else, she wanted to convey the idea that women’s rights are human rights and that human rights are women’s rights.
I found this speech inspiring because she speaks with a tone encouraging, serious, determined and hopeful. This speech is thought-provoking. She is telling us, the audience, to do something by using “we must” ; “let us not forget” ; “let us heed that call” and the fact that she’s using the pronoun “we”, create a feeling of unity, we want to fight against it together. Sometimes she uses some shocking facts. For instance, “when a leading cause of death worldwide among women ages 14 to 44 is the violence they are subjected to in their own homes by their own relatives”, “when individual women are raped in their own communities and when thousands of women are subjected to rape as a tactic or prize of war”. It makes me want to react because as she said “Women must enjoy the rights to participate fully in the social and political lives of their countries, if we want freedom and democracy to thrive and endure”, “every woman deserves the chance to realize her own God-given potential” and with the anaphora that she used “it is a violation of human rights”. She mentioned some universal landmarks : “we recently celebrated the 75th anniversary of Women’s Suffrage. It took 150 years after the signing of our Declaration of Independence for women to win the right to vote”. It is true that there were several changes in the last century but it there’s still some way to go. Indeed, this speech was made 22 years ago and some of this happening still exist. This speech is inspirational because I want, in 2017, that the world stop talking about it and began to act, her words are still valid in nowadays.
