The sixties can be define as the period of power, according to the dictionary it is define by the ability or capacity to do something or act a in a particular way.
During this period a lot of things changed, in politics but also in culture, new way of thinking, creation of new technologies…
So how can we say the sixties in Britain where a period of power ?
I’ll first explain the different shapes of power and how it influence people in Britain.
The sixties where the time of celebration and protestation in Britain.
Music play a role very important in a part of the society with bands like The Rolling Stones, The Beatles or the singer David Bowie. This one was an important protagonist in the 60’s and also now a days. In his song “Universal Soldier” he denounce the roles of the soldiers during war which where suppose to be heroes but they turn the “vilains” of the war and tries to change peoples mind.
Another community also try to change de way of thinking, the hippies, a sub-culture who fight against the war, they creates a movement of anti-establishmentarism, which invite people to go against the rules of the government, it’s a political philosophy of a society which is unjust and corrupt.
Another revolution come but this time the protagonists where woman, they fight to have the rights in their own bodies, to control it, so they can abort, they have the access to the contraceptive pill.
But also important is the equality between men and women, as the equal pays, the movie “Made In Dagenham” follow the this fight with the employees of the Ford factory and which are fighting for equality.
Another woman change minds with her style, Twiggy, a fashion model which introduce a new fashion trend with geometrical forms, and very colorful dresses, open woman minds and she participate to make Britain the fashion capitol of the world.
Another trend appear during the sixties, the color television, in 1967, which broadcast famous tv shows as “Doctor Who” and who is still famous.
With all this changes Britain became a nation of revolution, people started feeling free and more happy.
Like during World Cup in 1966 which bring a wave of good vibes.
This new change allows us to say that the sixties was a period of power, in politics, culture and economy.
