Synthese Anglais : Myths and heroes

I will introduce the concept of myth and heroes. A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon. To represent myths and heroes, I go to talk about San Francisco. We can wonder what makes a city legendary ? For this i go to talk in first part of the open-mindeness of San Francisco, one of their commitment and finally of the gold rush.

First of all San Francisco is a city which is represented by the Golden Gate Bridge, the bridge that leads to the American dream. In addition to that San Francisco it's a city of tolerance, so it is often on the lookout of the emancipation of minorities and civil rights. The Free Breakfast for Children Program, of the Black Panthers African-American Revolutionary Movement, began in San Francisco. The city was also in the 1960s an important focus of the hippie counterculture and Flower Power. It was home to the Beatgeneration movement. San Francisco has also become an emblematic homosexual city, particularly in the 1970s, with the political activism of Harvey Milk, who was assassinated in 1978. Since the 1980s, the city has been involved in the fight against climate change. In 1989, the city adopted the City of Refuge Ordinance in which it refused to collaborate with the federal authorities in the fight against illegal foreigner. This makes it a sanctuary city for the illegal immigrant.

Then, now San Francisco made a big decision. On March 20, 2018, the city's supervisory board, considered one of the most progressive in the United States, voted unanimously to forbid the sale of new fur from January 1, 2019. This is not the first California city to take such a step, but it is certainly the most important in terms of people and influence. Katy Tang hopes that this measure taken for a city as powerful as San Francisco will have an international impact and will help to advance the various measures around the world.

The Gold Rush had a profound impact on California, dramatically changing its demographics. Before the discovery of gold, the territory’s population was approximately 160,000, the vast majority of whom were Native Americans. By about 1855, more than 300,000 people had arrived. Most were Americans, though a number of settlers also came from China, Europe, and South America. The massive influx gave rise to numerous cities and towns, with San Francisco gaining particular prominence. The Gold Rush was credited with hastening statehood for California in 1850.

To conclued San Francisco it's a city legendary because represented the myths of the American dream with a gold rush, the golden gate bridge and with their oppen-mindedness for illegal immigrant. But also because represented the heroes with Katy Tang who is fighting for the animals.
