SYNTHESE ANGLAIS – MYTHS AND HEROES

         Maya Angelou once said « I think a hero is any person really intent on making this a better place fo all people ». This makes me think about a notion we studied this year. Indeed, we talked about the notion of myths and heroes. A myth is a traditional narrative of prodigious events realized by  supernatural or extraordinary characters as gods, demigods, heroes or still monsters and hero is a mythical or legendary character  who carried out extraordinary actions, it's a person who distinguishes himself by his numerous qualities like his strength, his nobility of soul and his high virtue. However, we focused on King Arthur's legend.

         Thus, we can wondering on what is the vision of the legend of King Arthur through centuries ?

         First, we will see how King Athur appeares to be a hero, then, in a second part, we will dig further into the topic and see that he is also a myth.

For centuries, King Arthur is represented as one of the most important heroes. Indeed, he appears as having objectives. We can oserved this with documents that we have studied, first, a extract which comes from a series entitled Merlin which was produced by the BBC. It's divided into two parts. In the first part, we can see King Arthur who is on the top of a hill. He is delivering a speech to his knights and soldiers. He tells them that the battle they are about to fight is for the kingdom of Camelot but also against tyrannie and spite. In the second part of the extract, Arthur appears to be fighting above against his ennemies. Here, Arthur is represented as having some value, he is represented as a nice person, who is against the wickedness. In the same way of the first document, we can observed this aspect of an arthur who has objectives in the movie King Arthur : Legend of the Sword which was realized in 2017 by Guy Ritchie. This is my personal documents. Here Arthur is fighting the strengths of the evil thanks to the help of his friends.For instance, he finishes by person killed the murderesses of his parentswho also looked in for him killed. He kills the murderer of his parents who also wanted to kill him. Lasting along the movie, he doesn't stop defending the innocents. These two documents demonstrates us well the values which defends this character. He appears in these two documents as against the tyranny and greed which are important qualitiesfor a heroe.

     In addition, we can secondly observed that King arthur appears to be a model for people. Indeed, in the extract of the serie Merlin, the army is looking up to Arthur, indeed, he's the king but he seems to be a model to them as well. Furthermore, when he makes his speech, everybody listens and by making his speech, he galvanizes his people, he cheers up them in order to motivate them to fight. In the same way, we can observed that Arthur also appears as a model for the people. Indeed, he is seen as brave when he leaves alone in the dark lands to fight the evil force but also as determined when he rescues his friends. Moreover, he manages to convince that it is necessary to fight for the future of England and he even became King of England starting from scratch.If his people so trust Arthur and wants to looks like him, it is because he meets his commitments but also because  he treats people respectfully. Moreover, it is because he is a leader who encourage and  who recognizes his mistakes and this, shows to all that he is not a perfect person, they thus put themselves in the place of him and this perspective is easily represented in both documents.

      Next, we can say that Arthur appears to be powerful. Indeed, in the second part of the extract, Arthur is fighting above against his ennemis. He seems to be a hero as he is more powerful than them. This is emphasized by the slowmotion effect which show that Arthur is the most powerful of them all. Moreover, the fact that he is on the top of the hill shows that he is above all, that he is the leader, he which manage them and he is more powerful than them. Still, Arthur is physically represented as the powerful by his robust armor and his proud posture. The movie realized by Guy Ritchie also demonstrates us Arthur's power. Indeed, this one succeed to win all his fights thanks to his mental strength but especially whith his physical strentgh while he is sometimes alone against several. In a scene of the movie, he fights so bravely one by one his enemies who are the black warriors that the others ends up by gives up and released their sword on the ground. He appears also as a powerful fighter there.
