Sweden energy

Sweden is at the first rank in European country in use of renewable energy which represent more than 38,7% among all the energies used.

Its population is about 10 million and its surface is 450 thousand square km which is actually 5% of the China’s. The HDI is however much higher than the China with 0,933 and therefore reveals a greater sense of well being in this country.

Primary energy supply: 49,2 million tep (ton of oil equivalent)

Electricity: 44,9% (and there are only 3 nuclear power plants in Sweden)

Wood: 25,2%

Fuel: 23,8%

Carbon: 4,2%

Gaz: 1,7%

The energy consumption per inhabitant of the Sweden is twice the world average but it can be explained by the cold climate. The country emits only 3,83 tones of CO2 per year despite of a developed industry and it’s one of the lowest emitters among the developed country.

This is explained by the share of renewable electricity: hydro, wind and solar power together accounted for 50% of the electricity produced in Sweden.

Since 2003, Sweden has supported renewable energy in the electricity sector with a "green electricity certificate" obligation for retail power suppliers.

Within the context of the European Union's 2009 Renewables Directive, Sweden was working towards reaching a 49% share of renewable energy in gross final consumption of energy - electricity, heating/cooling, and transportation by 2020. Eurostat reported that Sweden had already exceeded the Directive's 2020 target in 2014.

In conclusion we think that Sweden is one of the countries on which we should learn from because despite of a developed industry and a high energy consumption, they set up concrete solutions to reduce their co2 emissions and use renewable energies in their everyday life without count their expenses.
