I'm going to present about the notion spaces and exchanges. The notion deals with the geographical and symbolic areas that all society occupy and the interactions between men and different societies. Our world is built on the exploration and conquest of new spaces. Besides the different cultural, economic, sociological and language interaction have shaped and characterised our modern-day world. Among the whole proposition offered by the notion I choose to talk about emigration, mainly in America. Partially because it's a nation of immigrants as matter of fact everybody is an immigrant or descendant of immigrants exception for the Indian. So to what extent is the US still an attractive land?

First, the American dream maintains the will of numerous migrants to come in America. Indeed for many it’s a land of freedom where it have numerous economic opportunities. These reasons attracting people from other the world hence it were some waves of immigration where the united states were the land of welcome. The first wave of immigration (1607-1776) mark this era of space to freedom because many English colons come for economic opportunities but also for escape to religious persecution in England, America became a space of religious freedom. We saw in the song American land by sprinston that like the narrator emigrants plans to settle in America and then send for their families. Once in America it seems a land of wealth, abundance and luxury like an Eldorado’s. He is ready to work hard but he is confronted to reality and be rejected. Then in the second wave of immigration (1820-1870) is due to the economic and political crisis in Europe especially the Irish potato famine and the revolution in Germany. Moreover the dream of the gold rush create the figure of a land of prosperity. Thereafter the 3nd wave in 1880 the American is obligated to regulate the immigration by the bias of Ellis island in 1892 but too law to quotas in 1924 by nationality because America still is a country of welcome to people escaping poverty, pogroms or politics institution. Finally until our days people in the world but majoritly Hispanics and Asians come to America to realize their dreams. Thus América is considerate as land of freedom where everything is possible.

However since the 20th century there is transition of why America is attractive. Indeed before the end of world war two America is a land to realice there dreams and escape to persecution so like Isabel Berlarsky's father who was a Russian jews escaping to Stalin's purges. He became a great opera singer admirated around the world. He takes that opportunity because he has nothing to lose and his sacrifice, living in a small apartment in an other country than Russia, have paid. However since the world war 2 America have an economic boom so immigrants wanted a shape of prosperity. Thus dreams of liberty, freedom, equality or having a good school formation and found a family became dreams of have a good job, big house a being millionaire.

In effect, few people really fulfilled they dreams and the life not as good as expected. Immigrants have to have odd job that nobody wants to be stuff is miserable room because life is very expensive and they can’t afford a house. They are too confronted to racism by americans for their accent, skin's color, faces. The United States yet considerarse
