MOUNT RUSHMORE

 
The Mount Rushmore National Mémorial , near the city of Rapid City in the State of South Dakota in the United States , is a granite sculpture located in the Presidential Memorial of  United States who retraces 150 years of the country's history.The face sculptures are each 18 meters high , representing four of the most famous presidents in American history . This sculptures represent to the left at right   George Washington, Thomas Jefferson , Theodore Roosevelt and Abraham Lincoln.The memorial are managed by the national park service and attract over two millions visitors each year.

 The territory where is located the mountain belonged to Native Americans following the signing of the Treaty of Fort Laramie in 1868 , but the United States broke thistreaty since 1876to 1877 they conquered this territory.

The hill was named Mount Rushmore during the exploring expedition led by Charles E. Rushmore , a great lawyer in New York, in 1885 .

Historian Doane Robinson spoke for the first time the idea of Mount Rushmore in 1923 to promote tourism local.After negotiations with US President Calvin Coolidge , the project received the approval of the latter who authorized the launch of a national commission of Mount Rushmore memorial March 3, 1925 .

Gurtzon Borglum was the principal sculptor who was charged of the project.
On July 4, 1934 , the face of Washington was completed,Jefferson portrait was inaugurated in 1936 ,the face of Abraham Lincoln on September 17 , 1937 and

In 1939 , the face of Theodore Roosevelt was inaugurated .The total cost of this sculpture amounted to about one million dollars.Today the director of the park have native americans origin , in response to  Mount Rushmore other memorial " crazy horse memorial " is being built in the black hills in the South DACOTA .

the monument represent  the famous Indian chief "Crazy Horse".this monument was created for purpose shows that this territory is very sacred in the eyes of native americans.
