The application, submitted by Progenerra for a proposed new generation coal-burning power station to be located at the existing site of Marsdale which is in the Yorkshire and The Humber region of England was accepted for review by The planning authority.

The generating station would be able to supply enough electricity to 1.5 million homes replacing at the same time the obsolete plants. According to Progenerra’s proposal, their project is expected to create more than 3,200 jobs and ensure that the power station will be technologically advanced and based on the latest achievements of scientific research. Their tests have proved that the new power plants will produce 35% less dioxide and other substances harmful to the environment such as nitrous oxide and methane.

If development consent is granted, the construction will start in early August of this year. It has been brought to our knowledge that lately, a large group of environmental activists has set up a protest camp just outside the Marsdale plant demanding to cease all coal-fuelled power generation.

The government is really concerned about this situation having at heart what is best for the United Kingdom’s people To handle this situation the best way we can, we are re-opening the negotiations with Progenerra to ensure that they can provide plants which will please the great majority.

It’s important to know that coal-burning has always played an important role to play in the UK’s energy system, but coal is becoming an ore whose reserves are dropping sharply and the UK government wants to transition to a more environmentally friendly system. However, we have always been clear that no technology will be used at any price: new power plans must provide value for money for consumers and taxpayers.

Alongside entering negotiations in relation to Progenerra, the government will also continue to engage with the other developers in the UK. Our discussion will be reviewing the viability of future projects, which could deliver the Government’s objectives in terms of value for money, fiscal, and sustainability. By doing so, people will be able to participate fully in the examination of this proposal.

People can register easily online on the government official website

Alternatively, they may call The planning authority helpline for a printed registration form, which must be completed by 24 February 2015.

The government would like to assure that it’s actions will always support the interests of the United Kingdom’s people, in order to do so, everyone who is concerned by the new power station situation is invited to register.
