What is this mysterious dark matter that occupies more than 80 percent of our universe? How is it that quantum entanglement is faster than the speed of light? Questions like these capture my attention and are what make me so interested in studying mathematics at university. Over the past 2 years, while doing my A-levels , I have developed a great interest in the subject. This interest has made me want to learn more on topics such as string theory and whether the model of the universe is in fact a complex 11 dimensional world, or wave duality in relation to the concept shown by Schrödinger's cat. Mathematics don't cease to amaze me as there is still so much to discover and research. Furthermore, mathematics can be used in all fields of work, such as music, medicine and banking, the aforementioned being the sector in which I wish to work in.
I consider myself excellent at mathematics and capable of studying it at the highest level. This is demonstrated by the fact I completed my A- level maths in one year at the age of 14. This kind of dedication and sheer grit at such a young age can only mean that I am more than capable of handling any workload put out before me and complete any challenge set upon my path. Furthermore, I believe I am suitable for this course because I have demonstrated throughout my academic studies that I am a hardworking and passionate student who does not crumble under pressure but who relishes a challenge. A mistake for me is a way of learning to better myself and improve. Last summer, I attended lectures on black holes and coding theory which gave me an insight into the way universities function and operate and gave me the opportunity to learn about the way mathematics are taught.
I started in the French system before discovering that in fact I was gifted in mathematics and to truly excel and maximize my potential, I had to sit English mathematics exams. As I did these at a young age, I required a certain level of maturity to be ready to sacrifice my spare time to focus and work on succeeding at these exams. I am a self-taught mathematical enthusiast who only had a teacher for 1 hour a week to help quell any outlying doubts. This coupled with the fact I put in 2 hours of work every night after school in addition to my school homework shows how dedicated I am to succeed and how important mathematics are in my life.
