Notion 1 : Myths and heroes

Today I will deal with the notion Myths and Heroes. First of all, I would like to give a brief definition of the notion.

A myth is a traditional story of unknow autorship, ostensibly with a historical basics, but serving usually to explain some phenomenon of nature, the origin of man… This is a popular belief or story that has become associated with a person. Usually, it is composed of unreal fact and action, often led by a Hero.

A heroes is a person who is admired for their courage or for having done something very brave, outstanding achievements, or noble quealities. Whereas, some heroes are real-life persons who were outlaws to rebel against a given order they refused and to challenge it like Rosa parks, Martin Luther King, Nelson Mandela.

So, now, I will try to explain : How Myth and Heroes influence the behavior of society ? First a will talk about the most famous myths which is the American Dream with successful career an then, I will concentrate on the fenomenon « Rags to Riches » and I will say a few words about the failure.

  1. The American Dream with successful career

Firstly, I will introduce the American Dream. The american dream is a national ethos of the United Sates in which freedom includes the opportunity for properity and success. The idea of the American Dream rooted in the Declaration of the Independance the 4th of Jully 1776, which proclame « all men are egal » including « Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness ».

One of the successful career named Oprah Winfrey, she shows us how rough life can be with her life experience. She is unique, she is an incredible talented ans charismatic entrepeneur and she has an enormous influence over her fans. She has opened South African Leadership Academy for girls who have been lived things similar to her story : she was sexualy abused by a friend of her family. She has become an iconic person and she was always fighting the social norms.

The second exemple is Aimee Mullins. She was born with a medical condition that resulted in the amputation of both of her lower legs on her first birthday. She thinks that the power within people makes them beautiful and lets them be the architects of their own identities. She has changed her disability into super-ability.

Oprah Winfrey and Aimee Mullins show us that with American Dream, Sucessful career can be possible even if during half of our life that can be hard, the success is within reach of those who wish it.

  1. Rags to Riches

I will make a comparision between Steve Jobs and Thomas Enderson. These two men are famous American inventors who revolutionised the society of their time. I can compare the two men since they present quite a certain number of common points. Both were paid large tributes when they die head of stat. Moreover both could easily visualize projectsand achieving them on a grand scale didn't frighten them. Finally both had a terrific temper which scared their employees. This led Edison to invent a light bulb and Steve Jobs to created Apple computers. Both were quite soon successful : « Enjoying early success ».
