New Zealand is an island nation in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. It is situated some 1,500 kilometers east of Australia across the Tasman Sea and roughly 1,000 kilometers south of the Pacific island areas of New Caledonia Fiji, and Tonga. Its capital city is Wellington, while its most populous city is Auckland. In 1642, Abel Tasman, a Dutch explorer, became the first European to sight New Zealand. This country was one of the last habitable land masses to be settled. For over 150 years after 1800, most people who migrated to New Zealand were from Britain and Ireland. New Zealand is a constitutional monarchy with a parliamentary democracy, although its constitution is not codified. Elizabeth II is the Queen of New Zealand and the head of state. The Queen is represented by the Governor-General, whom she appoints on the advice of the Prime Minister. The official languages are English, Māori and New Zealand Sign Language, with English predominant. Today, the majority of New Zealand's population of 4.7 million is of European descent; the indigenous Māori are the largest minority, followed by Asians and Pacific Islanders. The economy of New Zealand is the 53rd-largest national economy in the world measured by nominal gross domestic product and 69th-largest in the world measured by purchasing power parity. It is one of the most globalized economies and depends greatly on international trade, mainly with Australia, the European Union, the United States… In New Zealand people practice sports like rugby union, cricket, football, and netball. Also there are many spots very interesting to visit in this country like Bay of Islands which is one of the best places to go in New Zealand for fishing, sailing, and other watersports, Auckland which is one of the best places to go in New Zealand, Te Whakarewarewa Geothermal Valley which is home to a number of active geysers, including Pohutu, the largest active geyser in the southern hemisphere and many others spots. The climate of New Zealand is varied due to the country's diverse landscape. Most regions of New Zealand belong to the temperate zone with a maritime climate characterized by four distinct seasons
