Hello, I’m going to talk about the notion Myths and Heroes.

To begin I am going to define you what is a myth.

A myth is a story that may or may not be true. There may not be records or other proof that they happened, but there is a part of truth in these.

In order to illustrate the notion I have chosen to talk about the American dream and a figure emblematic of its success.

We can then wonder if the American Dream was beneficial for everybody ?

To introduce this topic, firstly I will speak about the hope for a better life thanks to the American Dream, then I will present you Oprah Winfrey, a person who have lived this dream and finally I will focus on the negative aspects of it.

1) The hope for a better life

The majority of the immigrants left their country because of the living conditions which are horrible, as the poverty, the war…

They don’t have other choice than to leave their homeland to get a new start in America.

Thus, the immigrants want to live the American Dream because they believe in him.

For them, to go to in USA would allow them to have a better life for their families because America holds the opportunities to arise socially and provide a better life by working hard.

Indeed, in USA everybody can benefit from the education, to have access to the school, people are free and the living conditions are much more pleasant there because it’s the country which is rather rich.

The American Dream would be the means of survival and the hope of many people fighting for a better life.

Trans: many people have lived the American Dream and this one was for them a revelation, as for Oprah Winfrey.

2) Oprah Winfrey

Oprah Winfrey is a figure of success, who showed that the American Dream could be a reality.

She is an American producer of television and cinema, actress… She is especially known for her talk show

The Oprah Winfrey Show who won several prizes and who became the program the most seen in the history of the television. She was born in Mississipi of a young and single mother. Her youth was marked by a lot of difficult episodes and family problems. Despite everything, she made a career in the media, and her success was gigantic.

Oprah is an example of a person who started from scratch and finally successful her life thanks to the efforts that she supplied. The fact that she embodies the American Dream makes her a kind of hero for all her fans.

Oprah Winfrey is like a hero for many americans, because she demonstrated that the American Dream was a reality.

Trans: but the American Dream didn’t benefit to everybody and it’s what we go to see…

3) Negative aspects

The way to go to the USA is quite hard, and it’s a dangerous journey because the route is very long and the children of the immigrants have difficulty in following. A lot of people died during the expeditions because of the conditions difficult.

It’s often dangerous because it’s an illegal way, so they have to take many risks.
