I’m going to present the notion of Myths and Heroes, first I’m going to give a definition: A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon. He’s brave, devoted, sometimes he save lives.
Why are sports heroes so important in today’s society?
Firstly I’m going to present a first document which is an interview of Philippe Croizon, my second document is called “Black and Blue” written by Elljay.
My first document is a video, an interview about Philippe Croizon. Its a disabled french swimmer, a quadruple amputee of 44 years old. He crossed the Mediterranean from Spain to Morocco. This is the third stage of his plan to link the five continents. The action take place on thursday, 12th July 2012. Philippe said that it was very difficult because of the long distance and the very strong currents …? He did this using leg prosthesis. It took a little over five hours. His back was hurting but he was very determined so he succeeded. He did that because he wants to show that there is differences between the disabled and able bodies whatever the skin colours, religion, politics are. His objective is to link the five continents by swim. Philippe Croizon can be considered like a hero because he show that everyone can do this. To do what he’s done, it must be determined, pluck up courage, you have not to yield, you have to persevering.
My second document is called “Black and Blue” written by Elljay. This poem is about the first black player of a famous British football team Chelsea who named Paul Canoville. The title refers to the colour of his skin as well as to that of the team which has traditionally been blue. More generally speaking, the poem deals with the issue of racism in sport. Some supporters admired him for his football skills and his courage. He was a hero for them. However, most people mocked Paul or even abused him because of his skin colour. Paul Canoville signed for Chelsea in December 1981.
To conclude, we can say that sports heroes are important in today’s society because they affect society on the fact that it must no have differences between people. Everyone can practise a sport. We saw that with to documents which were an interview of Philippe Croizon, a disabled French swimmer and a poem entitled “Black and Blue” a black football player.
