MYTHS AND HEROES

I’m going to speak about the notion of Myths and Heroes.

To start I can say that a myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a rôle model or an icon.

As the given definition, there are many ways to define it but I’m going to give you my personnal vision of it.

To me a hero is someone who has made gratefull things in his life. Here is my perfect exemple : My grandfather.

He is a hero for me because he has changed his whole life for a cause close to his heart.

His aim was to change society’s perception of people with intellectual disabilities.

He first work in a metallurgy company ans was very affected by the way people looked at the mentaly disabled one. He decided to change his work and became a specialized educator.

He knew that sport was one of the way that could help those people integrate society.

He received a PHD in disability and became a sociologist doctor.

His first move was to create the adapted sport in Aude and he became vice president of the federation. Thanks to his commitment he received the academic award and the sport medal from David Douillet.

Right before his death in 2017, he managed to expend his fieeld internationnaly and became president in Bamako where the first reunion took place.

Today, in his honour, the federation created an international football challenge bearing his name ‘Challenge Roy Compte ».

Despite all his action, he always remained simple and humble. He never put his person forward an never forgot the local athlets.

During his whole fight, and to thank and congratulate them, he created a charity gala in 1998 called Sports Trophics where big athlets took part in such as Martin Fourcade, Perrine Lafond, …

Today, society’s perception of the disabled has deeply changed and that what my grandfather fought for his whole life.

To conclude, I would like to say that for all his action he is a hero, a modest and silent hero. And today his actions continue in France but also all over the world.
