Myths and Heroes

So I’m going to present you the notion of « Myths and Heroes ». First of all I’m going to give a definition. A myth can be defined as a story about gods or heroes, it can be a popular belief or a tradition or a false notion. A hero can be a mythological figure, a person who is admired for his or her achievements, a superhero or maybe a role model or an icon.

Why are heroes so important to our society?

I will present 5 document that we studied in class. First of all I will present an extract that is called « a french hero in new york city ». Document 2 is a photo about heroes of 9 november. Document 3 is a cartoon about Marthin Luther King and Barack Obama. Document 4 is an article about a Barack Obama. Finally document 5 is about the humanitarian missions of Angelina Jolie.

The document 1 is an extract from « the mail foreign service, written the 8th of April 2010 ». The topic of this document is about a French tourist who saved a little girl because she feel in the East River in New York city. This french tourist became a hero because he jumped to help the father. He was courageous, determinated, generous. A hero is someone humble not everybody can become a hero : for example, french hero didn’t hesitate to save a little girl from a very dangereuse situation.

To conclude, heroes can be ordinary people.

I will now introduce document 2 about the 9th November attack. The photo shows 2 parts : in the foreground there is superman and his dog. He is a symbol of superheroes. He is looking at « ordinary » people. He’s saying « woooow ». In the background there is a group of people. They all represent their jobs like firemen, nurses, policemen, doctor, businessmen, workers, surgeons. The document shows that Superman is impressend by the common people. He admires the true patriots. To conclude, these people can rescue people’s lives or make the country a better place to live. They all embody the notion of Heroes.

The document 3 is a cartoon. We can see Marthin Luther King on TV and Barack Obama watching TV in his living-room, as a child. Barack Obama is inspired by Marthin Luther king. He had a very strong power of inspiration. MLK’s message is that the most important is not what you look like but who you are inside. MLK says « I have a dream ». Discrimination between blacks and whites should be more. He is a model for barack Obama.

The document 4 called « I miss Barack Obama ». It is an article from the New York Times. « I miss » the journalist has a positive opinion of Barack Obama. Because he has never lived scandals, he had integrity and leadership. B.O is considered as a hero because he is helping black people. He is the symbol of Hope because he was the first black president. MLK’s dream come true.

Document 5 is a screenshot from the website « bio ». World humanitarian day celebs who use their powers for good. Like Angelina jolie who collect money, help poor people, make the world a better place. She became a member of the United Nations for refugees. She has been on field missions. A.J can be considered as a heroine because she spends her time helping people and  invested her money by founding associations. She has noble qualities like generous, humble. She goes in field missions.

To conclude, the heroes hold noble quality. They intervene in different areas of life. They allow to inspire the youngest to build the world of tomorrow.
