MYTHS AND HEROES

Introduction :

Hello !

I am going to talk about the notion : myth and heroes.

First of all, I would like to give a definition of this notion : a myth is a story whose protagonist is a hero. A hero is a person, real or fictional, known for his actions or qualities

To reflect on this notion, I would like to speak more precisely about unforgettable legends.

We will see if tragedy and failure elements which contribute to the legendary status of a star

First, we will talk the mainstream icons. Then, we will study the heroes even so.

Développement :

  • Nowadays, most heroes are to be found in pop culture, music and cinema. However, there have still been heroes of different kinds.
  • First, there are the iconic figures of pop culture that everybody knows and admires. However, the mysterious circumstances of their deaths contribute to their legends.
  • For example, the Forever 27. This title has been coined to refer to an amazing number of musicians who died aged 27. This group includes : the guitarist and singer Robert Johnson, the musician Brian Jones, the guitarist Jimi Hendrix, the singer Janis Joplin, the musician Kurt Cobain and the singer Amy Winehouse.
  • They all were extremely talented and when they died, they were all 27 years old. What's more, the tragic and sometimes mysterious circumstances of their deaths opened the doors to a lot of myths and rumors.
  • Now we will talk about the dark sides of stars.
  • First, Marilyn Monroe became an icon of Hollywood in the 1950s. Nevertheless, she was an ordinary young woman being who struggled with deep insecurities. Therefore, she suffered from addictions to drugs. Her tragic death in 1962 has ever since inspired endless controversy.
  • Then, Michael Jackson was confronted at a very young age with the troubles of celebrity. He started out as a child star and soon became known as the king of Pop.
  • Finally, we will study almost unknown stars.
  • Sixto Rodriguez was a songwriter. He released two albums but they were absolute failures. Therefore Rodriguez was back to his ordinary life. Meanwhile, in South-Africa, young white discovered Rodriguez's music. He became a hero for them.
  • Karen Dalton was a singer. She was in the right place at the right time but remained unknown as her albums didn’t sell.

Conclusion :

To conclude, some people become icons because of their extraordinary talents  however despite their qualities, they all are human beings who have flaws.

I think that becoming a star requires a lot of luck.

I finished my presentation.

Thanks you, good bye !
