Myth and hero
Ok so I am going to talk about myth and heroes but truly I am only going to talk about Heroes, as we didn't study myth at all. I am with the help of the documents we studied in class and a bit of my knowledge going to try to define the word hero. In order to do so I will give you a definition of it's meaning that I will then illustrate with two examples.
Ok so let's see what is a real Hero. The word hero as been used a lot recently and because of that it lost a lot of his meaning and impact. The overuse of the word hero nearly tarnished the image of the word, as people that didn't deserve it were associated with it. Let's seek the true meaning of the word itself in order to bring back some of it's old glory. So for me, I would say that a Hero and someone who answer to the definition of the word Hero is somebody who has an heroic moment and even after this moment just remain the same person, by this I mean that even after becoming an hero he remains humble and set an example for others.
If you think about it it make sense you can't be a hero for only doing one good thing in your life you have to keep pushing yourself towards greatness and set and example for the people who look at you and want to follow your steps you can't afford to mislead them can you?
Let's talk about Michael Phelps as I choose him as one of my examples. Many people consider him as a hero because he won some gold medals during the Olympics back in 2012. I disagree with them, as we can see he indeed had a heroic moment but just a few months after wining all his medals he was pictured doing drugs on the news. This type of guy can't be a hero; even if he had a heroic moment he didn’t set an example for others who were looking at him.
On the other side let's talk about the Captain Chesley Sullenberger someone like him can easily be considered as a hero let me tell you while. Back in the Captain was on a fly the plain was about to crash and kill all the passengers but as a last hope the captain Chesley managed to ditch the plane on water saving the life of all the passengers. This was truly an heroic moment but that's not all as right after he was ask to show up on a American TV show to testify on what had happened what he did truly show us the meaning of the word hero itself. He remained who he was an humble man and just said those few word "I only did my job" and then left the stage. That's a true example of humility and since then we haven’t seen him in the news for any bad reasons.
The Captain Chesley Sullenberger is not the only hero in the world, they are plenty of other people that I do consider as heroes according to my definition such as Martin Luther king, Rosa Parks or Wesley Autrey.
