Martin Luther king

We are going to present you martin Luther King. He was a pastor who was born in Atlanta on the 15/01/1929 and as any black in this time he has lived the Segregation.

Today he was known like a non-violent activist for civil rights of black people in the World

His struggle against the injustice of segregation began in 1955, when a black woman called Rosa Parks refused to give his place to a white man on a Montgomery bus and was arrested by the police. It was to protest against this injury that Martin Luther King  created an organization and called Montgomery black figures for a boycott of the bus company of the city. For almost a year, the boycott will continue to despite intimidation attempts focused on Luther King. Finally, the Supreme Court give harm to the bus company.

Thanks to this victory with a national profile, Luther King is involved with a dozen black personalities in the South of the United States to the establishment of a national organization: the CSCC. Elected as the Presidency, he decided to extend his non-violent struggle for civil rights for Blacks across the country. He received the support of major political figures such as Kennedy in 1963. 

This man has got a lot of price as:

  • The Nobel peace price. Martin Luther King becomes the youngest winner of the Nobel Peace Price in 1964 for his non-violent fight against racial segregation struggle and for peace.
  • He was awarded posthumously the Presidential Medal of freedom by Jimmy Carter in 1977.
  • The price of human rights of the United Nations in 1978.
  • The Gold Medal of the Congress in 2004.

Then, a day for him was created. The Martin Luther King Day is a public holiday in the United States. To remember this man. A lot of movies have been made to his memory like SELMA which is the name of a city where Martin Luther King has campaigned to register Black voters. Selma in Alabama became the focus of the civil black rights movement. Some documentary has been realized as Montgomery to Memphis. Some song also as “one day” by Bakermat.

Even if there were  15,156 blacks in in this city only 156 were registered to vote. On January 2, 1965 Reverend King visited Selma and gave a speech in it he stated: "Today marks the beginning of a determined organized, mobilized campaign to get the right to vote everywhere in Alabama." Demonstrators organized a march from Selma to Montgomery to promote voting rights.

Moreover his actions, Martin Luther King  is considered one of the greatest speakers since 1986

His most famous speech is «  I have a dream » pronounced on August 28, 1963, on the occasion of the centenary of the abolition of slavery in the United States, this shared dream transformed the racial segregation in the southern States in national disgrace. After 50 years, this speech stay very important. It is the most important speech about the segregation in the history. The rhetoric in this speech is very important, like the other.

We will talk about the speech “I have a dream” precisely. Actually, this speech began with the hell lived by the black people. One year ago, black people got all the rights but it has been remove. To justify his request he talks about Abraham Lincoln who said that all the people were equal. “ I have a dream” has been said 7 times in the speech and the liberty 9 times. At the beginning, Martin Luther King could not say “I have a dream”. His advisor said that. But at the end, he prefers say it in order to change and for his speech become unique. His speech last during 17 minutes instead of 5 minutes. But nobody stop him. A deputy said about him that “he just pass in the other side of the history”. And William Sullivan, a police officer said that “Martin Luther King was the black man the most dangerous for the nation”.
