I-Historical Facts

1. For me the 5 famous tribes we need to know for their history are the “Apache”, the “Cherokees”, the “Chactas”, the “Iroquois” and the “Navajos”.
2. All of them tribes had big chefs like “Black Hawk” for the Sauk and Fox tribe, “Ouray” for the South Ute tribe or “Quanah Parker” for the Comanche tribe.
3. These tribes fought spectacular battles such as “Little Bighorn” whose nickname is “Custer’s Last Stand”, this battle happened in 1876 and confronted the Sioux, the Cheyenne and the US soldiers who won. In other battle we have the massacre of “Wounded Knee”, in 1890 the Sioux, the Lakota and the US soldiers fought in the Wounded Knee Creek in the South Dakota. To finish the revolt of the “Sioux War” and his more than a thousand victims where fought the Sioux and the US soldiers in the Minnesota.
4. During the First World War, the US Army uses Choctaws for its encrypted communications; they are faster than coding machines.

The first time Amerindians were used in the US Army to deliver messages during combat, it was a group of Cherokees soldiers from the 30th US Infantry Division, serving alongside the British during the Second Battle of the Somme. According to the divisional signals officer, this took place in September 1918.

In English more word have native origins like “shunk, bayou, hickory, tepee, toboggan, powwow, squash, totem and some geographical Term.

1. Since a few years the laws about the casino evolve and accept more and more things, in 1988 a laws authorize the creation of casino on the Indians reserves because the tribes were usually poor.
2. If you are a tourist and you like the history of Native Americans you can visit the “National Museum of the American Indian, the Cherokee Heritage Center, the Gathering of nation or the Taos Pueblo.
