Introduction:

Definition:

 Places: could be important buildings or institutions which symbolize power.

 Power: is the ability to influence people’s behaviors. Power promotes social cohesion but can also leads to tensions and conflicts Power implies counter power in society.

There are 3 main forms of power:  executive, legislative and juridical

 But In the USA, the press is referred to as the fourth power because it has the power to counterbalance the government, thanks to the first amendment of the constitution that guarantees freedom of expression by prohibiting congress from restricting the press.

Problematique: How can written press’s scandal constitute a form of power?

Développement:

1/ Watergate scandal  

-the WATERGATE: it is the name of a building in which the Democratic party had its headquarters. It was spied by Nixon’s Republican Party. The illegal campaign practices as well as Nixon’s perjury were revealed. The two journalists from the Washington Post Bob Woodward, Carl Bernstein‘s article led to the resignation of Nixon on August 9th, 1974

WE CAN SEE THAT PRESS HAVE THE CAPACITY TO INFLUENCE THE POLICY AND THE PUBLIC  OPINION

In fact, during each American presidency scandals burst out of the press.

2/ Harvey Weinstein scandal

  • In October 2017 The New York Times publishes a story detailing decades of allegations of sexual harassment against Harvey Weinstein. Including a lot of actresses He also promised to help advance their careers in return for sexual favors.

In April 2018, The New York Times was awarded the Pulitzer Prize for Public Service "for their coverage of the sexual abuse of women in Hollywood and other industries around the world" .  The scandal triggered many similar allegations against powerful men around the world, and led to the ousting of many of them from their positions. It also led a great number of women to share their own experiences of sexual assault, harassment, or rape on social media under the hashtag #MeToo. The scandal's impact on powerful men in various industries came to be called the "Weinstein effect"

SHOW US THAT PRESS CAN INFLUENCE ON THE film INDUSTRY  HOLLYWOOD

3/ Madoff investment scandal

Throw all this events that include different subjects:  such as policy, economy and social.

We can see the power and the independence of the press.

Conclusion:

The freedom of the press has become an essential part of the American society in other words America is defined by the way the press acts. Thomas Jefferson wrote in the declaration of independence that a nation where “the press is free and every man is able to read, all is safe”..

  • Les Scandales dans la presse on tendance à attirer les lecteurs.
  • Les personnes qui s’attendent à suivre le fil conducteur des événements car le journaliste est en quelque sort un enquêteur.
  • Les gens on tendance à croire la presse car le journalise se doit d’être objectif en relatant les faits+ ils se basent sur des témoignages et des preuves dont il s’est préalablement assuré de leur véracité+ dans ce genre de scandal le lecteur cherche a avoir un avis exterieur.
  • Avec les e-newspaper la presse écrite a élargit son champs d’influence sur la population.
  • la Press peut influence notre opinions sur tel ou tel personnalités publique ainsi indirectement contrôler notre comportement  ex : les affaires cité …
  • la presse peut influencer l’opinion publique.
  • Awareness  rendre les gens conscient de la réalité des choses .
  • La press a boulversé l’industrie cinématographique et la politique deux secteur jugé intouchable et puissant.
