I'm going to talk about the notion "Idea of Progress". First of all, Idea of Progress can be defined as an improvement, a development or a change in society.

During the study of the notion, we worked on consumerism, in this theme we discovered that it meant overconsumption in today's society. The issue of this notion is «To what extent does consumerism equal progress a civilized society ?»

At first, we will see that consumerism is due to technical and technological progress. In a second step, we will see that consumerism is due to the love of buying in today's society.

I) Consumerism due to technical and technological progress

a) Progress in technology and technic allows globalization. The current society is almost the same as that of the last century but, thanks to the evolutions, the countries are connected to each other, this thus makes it possible to transform the society into a society of consumption.

b) Consumption's society result to overconsumption, consumerism

II) Consumerism due to the love of buying in today's society

a) Shopaholics, disease or not, can't control his expenses, it's why, they participate on overconsumption. Document 2 Confessions of a shopoholic

b) Some rich people love buying too much

c) Black Friday : document 1 Excess of consumption TRAMPLED TO DEATH. Ready to kill someone for buying a thing that they didn't need (TV,...)

d) American society : No obligation to have a bank account. People can buy without limit, document 4 Big Box Mart
