The death of Elizabeth II, the end of an era for Britain

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II died at the age of 96, she was Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. She ruled for seven decades. She passed away on September 8th, 2022, in her Balmoral castle. Immediately after Buckingham palace announced her death, tributes, homages, and statements from the world were done.  The United Kingdom s mourning its Queen. She dedicated her whole life to her nation, and she represented the continuity and stability of the country.

At first, she was never meant to take the throne. When her grandfather, King George V died, her uncle, (later King Edward VIII) was meant to take the throne, but he had to choose between marrying the love of his life, an American divorcee, or the crown.   However, he had made the desire to marry the American, so the throne went to George VI, the father of Elizabeth II. Suddenly, Princess Elizabeth became heir to the throne.

During the Second world war, life changed dramatically for the people of Britain, including the Royal Family. The young princess aged 14, gave her first public speech aimed at the young evacuees of the commonwealth who had to leave the bombed cities to live in much safer places. This experience helped to shape the future Queen she would be and showed her involvement in the war effort.

She acceded to the throne at the age of 25, upon the death of her father, George VI, on 6 February 1952, while on an official visit to Kenya. She became Queen Elizabeth II and took all the responsibility coming with her title. The coronation took place on 2 June 1953 in London. It was a spectacular ceremony. The ceremony was broadcast on radio around the world and, at the Queen’s request, on television for the first time.

Her experiences gave her an understanding of international relationships and enduring empathy for her future people. Her death provoked a moving and believable statement of friendship from a lot of countries.  Her funeral will take place on the 19th of September at Westminster Abbey in London.
