Leçon 1 :
We watch a trailer of “we were soldiers” by Rendall Wallace, which deals with the Vietnam war. Regarding Soldier’s representation, we can say that they were portrayed as brave and self-sacrificing people but on the other hand. They are also portrayed as father, as men ( father and husband ). What is unusual is that they are not only shown as heroes but also sensitive. What’s stereotypical are the fighting scenes and soldier bravery. Also the plot is predictable : the Americans are the goodies while the Vietnamese are the baddies.
All things considered, the movie shows the patriotism and the involvement of American soldier.
Leçon 2 :
Not everybody like watching war movies. Sensitive People dislike it for their extreme violence. To them they are too gruesome and show too much blood. Obviously, some war movies shows the reality of war and are action-packed whichs appeals to viewers. Some of them highlight the camerade ship United soldiers on the battlefields. Solder are generally portrayed as héros,as brave, but they are sometimes fearful, or even traumatized ones wishing they had never gone to war.

Leçon 4 :
We have seen the opening scene of saving soldat Ryan, it is a WW2 movie directed Steven Spielbergin 1998. We saw an old man, probably a war veteran he was walking in the American cemetery of Colleville sur Mer in Normandie. He came with his family. They followed the old man at a distance out of respect for him. The sound track conjured up a sad atmosphere. As a result, the opening scene was soul-stirring, quite a moving one. The saddest moment was when the veteran, is seen falling on his knees and busting into tears, surrounded by hundreds of graves. He was supposedly thinking about his dead ex comrades sacrificing their lives for their nation. Or maybe he was injured by a nazist and brought back home. In this case he’s certainly thankful to his camarade for keeping him alive. The last option is that he deserted the battlefield and is overwhelmed with guilt and shame. His memories of war must be quite ViVid in his soul. He may suffered from PTSD ( Post Traumatic Stress synDrome )
Leçon 5 :
We’ve examined a review of Saving Private Ryan by Spielberg and a review of Patton released in 1970 in the middle of the Vietnam war. Both reviewers enjoyed the movies that reviewed/criticized.
What FilmFanFrank appreciated the most is the realistic description of battle scenes. However he blames the movie for its stereotypical vision portrayal of soldiers shown as heroes. The reviewer has mixed feelings about it as he seems to blame it for its sentimentality and its excess of it.
