2. Compréhension de texte

a) 1. The text is a biography

2. This extract from Tim O'Brien's biography called The Things They Carried which relate Tim's reaction after he received his draft paper. First he feels the fear and despair, so he thinks to flee but he hesitates because his parents can't respect him any more.

Finally, he will abandon his former life in order to be free.

3. mettre en joue = taking aim

b) 4. The narrator think the Vietnam war is a “wrong war”, for him this war is not justified.

5. The narrator fears bout death “I did not want to die”, but he also fears to kill someone “I imagine myself doing things I couldn't do – charging an enemy position, taking aim at another human being.” even if the people are enemy, he doesn't want to kill.
