Battle Lavoisier

        

  • Lavoisier is celebrated as the leader of the 18th century chemical revolution and consequently one of the founders of modern chemistry.
  • He studied at the same time chemistry,philosophy, botanic,law,geology and finance and he had a  passion for meteorology
  • He participated at the creation of the metric system
  • He developed the modern system of naming the chemical substances.
  • He also created the principle of the chemical equations for the chemical reactions
  • French chemistry students are still taught the conservation of mass as “Lavoisier’s law” and this is indicative of his success in making this principle a foundation of modern chemistry.
  • He is the one who said “ nothing is lost, nothing is created, everything is transformed”
  • In 1787, Lavoisier and three colleagues published a new nomenclature of chemistry and it was soon widely accepted thanks to Lavoisier’s eminence.
  • He invented himself the name “oxygen” in 1779 and the name “azote”
  • Lavoisier performed a wide range of experiments on the research about the oxygen theory of combustion.
  • He is the one who discovered the composition of air and water
  • He created the notion of chemical element
  • He exhibited an unusual studiousness and concern for the public good.
  • He served as a leading financial of public administration before the French Revolution.
  • He helped develop the first geological map of France at the young age of 25.
  • He has been elected a junior member of the Academy of Sciences.
  • He helped France thanks to his services during the French Revolution and napoleonic wars .
  • Wealthy, high-minded, and hugely ambitious, Lavoisier was rationality and purposefulness personified.
