My name is Madlyn. I’m studying to be a secretary in “Le Chatelier High School. I’m going to tell you about my trip in England.
It was very early in the morning (6 AM) in October the 13th, 2014. We met my school friends and I in Saint Charles’ Railway Station to take the High-Speed train to Lille Europe’s Railway Station. We took the Eurostar connection which run through the Channel Tunnel to London.
We reached Saint Pancras’ Railway Station in London at 2 PM. We were a group of 30 students and 3 teachers.
We saw the sights of London with our bus driver called Jason: Big Ben, Parliament Square, London Eye, Buckingham Palace, etc…
Then, Jason drove us to Trowbridge a small town which is located two hours far from London. We were welcome by our British families who expected us and received us cordially.
Every day, we had a short cultural activity based on our daily visits.
The First day, we went in Bath to see her Roman baths an her famous Georgian architecture, the Royal Crescent, her Cathedral … and we did it in making a treasure hunt. The winners had a mug. It was my favorite activity.
The second day, we walked around the Prehistoric place of Stonehenge classified with the world inheritance of humanity by the UNESCO. This mysterious giant blue stone circle, called the sarsens, comes from the Preseli Hills in Southern Wales. It is an archeological enigma as well as the Pyramids in Egypt or the Easter Island ‘statues.
In the afternoon, we went to Salisbury and visited her Gothic Cathedral, home to The Magna Carta since 1215. It was the first document of the British Constitution which enabled according with to three principles: to rule by law, to guarantee rights and liberties and to separate the powers in democracy.
We did some shopping. As, it was raining, we had a delicious hot chocolate time at Jenny’s: a well deserved break. I like Salisbury very much.
Our last visit was Bristol. We had a walking guided tour on the Bansky Street Art including other talented artists. Finally, we went to the @ Bristol Museum of Science in which we made both funny and learning scientific experiments.
We left our families the next day in the morning, we were sad to quit each other. Our stay enabled us to discover a different way of life, to have new friends and was an interesting experience.
Our teaching team congratulated us about our good behavior. Moreover, the host family organization sent us a remarkable letter in which it was quoted :
“The behavior of the whole group has been at all times exemplary. All my families have very much appreciated the student’s efforts to communicate with them in English and their interest in English family life.”
I want to thank very much my host family for her kindness during my stay.
