English Oral :

First of all let’s define together what’s transhumanism, so transhumanism is a class of philosophies of life that seek the continuation and acceleration of the evolution of intelligent life beyond its currently human form and human limitations by means of science and technology, guided by life-promoting principles and values. So transhumanists are people who firmely believe that technology and science can help humans to upgrade and make their lives easier. But can we still consider ourselves as humans if we keep changing what make us a part of this race.

As we all know, the ethics are discussed but can we still see this improvement as benificial ?

Let’s talk about the pros and cons.

To begin with, transhumanism suggest to not only help people with bad vision but to replace your whole eye
with a bionic or robotic eye which eliminates all vision problems completely even if you’re born with no eyesight.

It’s the same with deaf people, no more hearing aids and devices,
but transhumanism can get you a brand new pair of ears.

They can also reduce disabilities, contributing in the development of artificial limbs, they’re beneficial to people who’ve had bodily amputations due to accidents. Thanks to it, it enables people to pursue careers in athletics.

Finally, it can release a faster thought process, that can help you communicate at the speed of your thoughts, also it enables you to share your sensory and emotional experience with others.

Now, we’ll talk about the cons.

First of, it will contribute in deshumanising the human race, transforming us into cyborgs or near-robotic beings. It will take away what trully makes us humans. The idea of immortality is unethical and unnatural, as
nature, is always better than a combination of all sciences and technologies.

Then, transhumanism mouvement aims toward extending the human race life span, and that will surely result into an overly populated world. Earth is already struggling with the people currently living on it and with climate change and global warming.

Besides, the only counter-response they give is that humans must start occupying spaces outside of Earth wich is, kind of ridiculous.

Lastly, transhumanism can create disparities between transhumanists and non-transhumanists. They’ll be people who can access to the revolutionary technologies and people who cannot access the same and will be regarded as unworthy of living in the evolutionary world. It can also be the one who betrayed their race and the conservatives.

In my opinion, transhumanism
is double-edged, it can be a good thing but in other cases a really bad thing and I think that it’s more a bad thing than a good thing. Creating human dependance regarding technology will bring only bad events such as disparities, an over populated world and immortality that will become a burden.

For exemple, a lot of devices can be hacked, and even nowdays we can observe that. Medical devices are hacked, and the hacker demand a ransom in exchange of the treatment. people with serious illness can only submit and accept this horrible situation.

That’s why transhumanism need to be limited, if not, it will be better if it exist just in our sci-fi books.
