PART 1: INTRODUCTION

The aim of this exam paper is to imagine and describe the workings of an EM Normandie Oxford Association during the two semesters of 2023-24, based on your experience of associations. The purpose of your imaginary association is:

Your theme: Inclusion

You understand the importance of ‘Inclusion’ in campus life. You are aware that certain groups of students are not as involved in associations as others -- some international students, students who are less out-going, students who have joined the Oxford campus from another EM Normandie campus.

You want to organise an Association that breaks down language and cultural barriers, and improves the participation rates of all students, regardless of gender, nationality, language skills and prior experience.

You have found five EM Normandie Oxford students who share this goal with you (see Team/HR below). You have decided to create your own EM Normandie Oxford association."

You will create and describe a scenario for this imaginary association, but the environment must be based on real-life within EM Normandie Oxford, research should be conducted on the Internet – e.g., researching existing charities and associations (in Oxford or nationally in the UK), real-life community projects, business partners, potential partnering universities, or clubs, etc. And from your personal knowledge about the campus.

Similarly, you will have to assess costs, events, venues based on information available on the Internet. You can use your own previous association experience to estimate takings (sales of tickets for events, sponsorship, etc).

PART 2: DELIVERABLES

You will have to present deliverables like those you were asked to provide for your Association assessment at the end of Semester 2 2023/2024.

**Deadline: 7th of June at 5.00pm UK time, UPLOAD on UPWARD**

Your paper must be written in English in a WORD or a PDF format and comprise a minimum of 4,000 words.

Please include the word count in the margin of your document (every 100 words)

Preparing the paper should in our view take a minimum of 15 working hours.

The scale is on 50 points, but our grades will be given on 20 (maximum grade: 20/20).

Please note:

  • All work will be run through the Turnitin anti-plagiarism software, and marks will be deducted, or in extreme cases 0 marks awarded, for copying the work of others.
  • You can quote any material you find during the research, but make sure you use “quotation marks” or credit data sources – this resit paper will be checked using Turnitin, with a 25% limit.
  • 0.5 point will be deducted to the final grade for each day of delay in your paper drop off.

PART 3: CASE PRESENTATION

Your Team/HR

Let's imagine you are the President. The students you have decided to start your association with are:

Caroline

Caroline is 17 years old. She is shy and most of the time, she prefers to stand by her own. But this year, she would like to make new friends and be more sociable. Caroline spends her spare time drawing and taking photos.

Joseph

Joseph is 19 years old. Joseph enjoys sports so much that he would like to work in sports management. In France he used to play many sports in different clubs: football, volleyball, basketball. As a real athlete, Joseph really likes challenges and competition. He hopes he would be able to discover some new sporting activities this year in the UK.

Annaëlle

Annaëlle is 19. She is the perfect embodiment of curiosity. She is always keen to discover something new: a new restaurant, a new movie, the last exhibition… Annaëlle spends her time travelling and discovering the surroundings of where she is settled down. Once done, she also like sharing her latest discoveries with her parents and friends on social medias.
