High school is an essential period in our personal development. A time full of opportunities, successes, failures, discoveries, but lost to grow. This period will be count with the story of Charlie, an introverted young boy who watches life rather than participate. This may seem normal, but his life can be compared to a balance, between joy and sadness. One of the most important messages in this film is to find yourself and find people who truly understand you because we needed ourselves.

That is why we live in a society. Everybody must find his own role in the world, for some people it's easy, but for others it's very difficult. It is possible that people never manage to find their own place. But we can help, we must try to understand them, listen to them. We must see the best in them so that they will see in themselves.

At the beginning of the movie Charlie is not able to talk about what happened in his life, to talk to his family because no one really really understands him

But Charlie's problem is that he always wants everyone to be happy without worrying about his happiness. Charlie writes letters in which he tries to understand each situation, each reactions brings about the analysis of everything, but it is impossible for him to understand himself.

It is also interesting to note that when Charlie writes about the books that his professor giveshim, he manages to use writing as a way of evaluating the actions of the characters in the books he reads

and he always tries to make parallels between his own life and the “life" described in the books.

When Charlie starts to combine his writing skills with his experiences, that allows him to develop a better image of who he is and who he wants to be.

Interestingly, the more Charlie writes, the more he understands himself, and the easier it is for the recipient of the letters to develop a more defined portray of Charlie’s mind. In other words, the more Charlie begins to understand himself, the more others begin to understand him. but it is the moment in which Charlie truly begins to feel free from the difficulties of trying to figure out why he is the way he is.

It's at the moment when Charlie discovers that he was abused by his aunt that he finally manages to free himself by understanding what was wrong with him

Charlie evolves in the film both in his way of seeing the world and seeing himself. He will regain confidence little by little and relate to life especially because of his two friends Sam and Patrick who will help him to integrate in this world so different of him.

Through friendship and love it is possible to overcome tragiqued events, regain self-confidence and find a place in society even if we are different.

I don’t know if I will have the time to write any more letters, because I might be too busy trying to participate. So, if this does end up being the last letter, I just want you to know that I was in a bad place before I started high school, and you helped me.

Even if you didn’t know what I was talking about, or know someone who’s gone through it, you made me not feel alone. Because I know there are people
