Frederick Douglass

Frederick Douglass was a famous speaker, writter and black civil rights activist. He born as a slave but adult he success to become free. He was born on a plantation in maryland and has been nammed frederick baley by his mother. Then they are separated. He doesn’t know his father but think he was the slave owner of his mother.

 When he his 8 years old he is send in a family in baltimore. Here his owner misse Sophia Auld learn him how to write and read. Because of his intelligence he is engaged on shipyard. Douglass tries many times to escape slavery but fails. It is in 1838 that he success and pretending to be a sailor he joins new york city on a boat. Here he is now free from the moment its owners do not find it.

Following year he marries anne murray and starts work as a worker in new beldford. In 1841 during a meeting by the Anti-Slavery Society in Nantucket he tells his experience about slavery, after this speech he his encouraged to defend black civil rights and to fight slavery.

His conferences are so successefull that he becomes an iconic figure for fight against slavery. But there is a rumor that he was not released and escaped from his plantation. So he decide to published in 1845 his autobiography nammed The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass. to escape this situation he travels to others countrie. It also allows to sensibilise people against slavery in others countries.

In 1847 he comes back usa and creates the north star. During the  Seneca Falls Convention he supports Elizabeth Cady Stanton's position on women's suffrage and defends woman civil rights on the political

I n 1848 his lawyers negotiate so that he can buy back his freedom for $ 1250. This action his very critiqued by activists.

in 1850 many actions are set up against slavery in USA. John brown a famous abolitionist propose frederick to join him during a raid to free some slaves but he reffused. this raid is a failure and douglas run away to canada.

he merges the north sstar (his anty slavery newspaper) with the Liberty Party Paper of the abolitionist guerrit smith. It is the born in 1851 of the Frederick Douglass 'Paper.

after the american civil war who starts in 1861 and end in 1865 and had for objective the abbolition of slavery, douglass does not stop his actions for the equality. He died on washington in 1895.
